William Carr “Billy” July 14, 1950-January 2,2021. Wayne County Sheriffs Deputy, K-9 and volunteer first responder, November 27th, 2001 9/11. My father sacrificed his life volunteering his services as a K-9 handler after the terrible events of 9/11. Him And his K-9 officer Quigley were posted at the Fresh Kills landfill in Staten Island, NY trying to help the families that lost loved ones in this trade and bringing some type of closure. Little did any one know that 10 years later my father, would be diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, after having beaten prostatic cancer 3 years before. This time around would not have a happy ending.

In July 2020,

e was diagnosed and passed away January 2, 2021. His last wish was to make it through the Holidays, especially Christmas, his favorite time. My youngest son, Kooper, 14 years old, was very close to my father, who lived across the street from us for almost 20 years. He’s having a tuff time going through the grieving process and it breaks my heart to see him upset an depressed. Lets just say… we are both seeing a grief counselor to get through it. I constantly think to myself that my father had another good 20 years of life left, he was in great shape! No heart problems, went to the doctor regularly with great outcomes, then BAM! The C word! My father did let us kids know that if he could go back and voluntleer if he had the choice to do it again…he said…Yes, he would because of the good feeling it brought to him to be able to give a family some type of closure. That’s my dad and I am proud to be his daughter! Not a day goes by that I don’t think about him!
